On January 19th, the Provo City Council gave the green light to the construction of a 22-field regional sports park. The location chosen for this park is on Lakeview Parkway close to the Provo Airport, which will make it accessible to the local community as well as to sports teams that travel to Provo. The estimated completion date for the sports park is 2024.
The new regional sports park will be situated on a 100-acre land to provide ample space for sports fields such as soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse and other recreation activities. To enhance the accessibility, the park will feature walking paths that connect the fields, as per Robbins. Additionally, at least three playgrounds will be installed throughout the park to cater to children.

Lakeside Parkway
Provo’s $43 Million Westside Connector, also called the Lakeside Parkway, improves access to Provo Municipal Airport and the southwest part of town. The connector opens the west side of the Utah Valley to further residential and commercial growth. Environmental concerns included preserving the wetlands through which the new road was being built. Working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the project team created or enhanced 30 acres of wetlands and took care to optimize water retention. The work included building a nesting platform for raptors. Constructing a major road through a wetland area brought engineering challenges as well. To lower groundwater pressure, crews installed more than 1,000 perforated wick drains in a 53,000-linear-ft area, then added 4 to 8 ft of overburden to push the soil down and drain the water. |
