The Startup Building Event Center, Provo Utah

The Startup Building in Provo, Utah was constructed in 1895 by William Startup as the home of the Startup Candy Company, one of the first candy and ice cream manufacturers in the state. The company was founded in Manchester, England by William Startup Sr. in the 1830s and was later brought to America by his son, William Daw Startup, who became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1938, the factory was sold due to the economic impacts of the Great Depression, but was later purchased back by Walter Startup Sr., a great-grandson of the founder.
Today, the north half of the building, which was formerly the boxing plant, now houses the Startup Candy store, which is still run by Jon Startup (a fifth-generation member of the Startup family) and his wife Stacey. The exterior design of the building combines elements of commercial and warehouse styles, and although it has undergone renovations over the years, it has never been demolished and rebuilt. The Startup Candy factory was added to the Provo City Historic Landmarks registry on March 21, 1996.
The building has become a unique venue for weddings, receptions, or business meetings and was extensively renovated to expose the brick.
